Partnerships that Work: AI for Doing, Measuring, and Scaling Impact

Whatever your view of AI, there’s no denying it’s changing how we build, operate, and learn – lowering the barrier to all while also confronting us with the very real risk of over-trusting rapidly evolving tools that still need guardrails. This session looks at AI as an enabler of impact, from doing it to measuring it to scaling it, through development/for-profit partnerships. In conversation with three stakeholders (a company using AI to increase its impact, a startup using an AI-enabled workflow to make impact measurement and qualitative insights quick and accessible, and a partner managing a large Gates-funded AI initiative), we’ll explore the impact potential of AI in emerging-market contexts; the role of AI-enabled measurement and learning in understanding, managing, and scaling that impact; and how development partners concretely help de-risk and accelerate company-led impact. We’ll frame the discussion by exploring the guardrails needed for responsible use so AI’s development potential is actually realized.
